OverviewMedical Director OverviewThe Regional Medical Director - West Division holds the responsibility of providing clinical expertise and business direction to support medical management programs aimed at delivering high-quality anesthesia care.
This role is pivotal as it entails both medical and business leadership.
The Regional Medical Director - West Division collaborates with executive and site leadership to manage the implementation of new accounts while catering to existing clients across our national client base.
ResponsibilitiesMedical Director
Responsibilities:
Provide oversight of day-to-day operations for startup accounts.
Collaborate with the corporate management team, hospital administration, Medical and CRNA directors to establish comprehensive site management structures.
Participate in contract acquisition and RFP response, including staffing, proforma, and facility assessments, in collaboration with Business Development.
Assist corporate leadership in optimizing resources for clinical recruitment, staffing, and scheduling.
Work with the COO to develop standardized programs related to clinical informatics, centralized databases, and electronic scheduling.
Support evidence-based leadership concepts through leader mentorship, rounding, and feedback.
Collaborate with facilities to determine strategic goals and develop action plans, utilizing Lean and TEAMSTEPPS methodologies, patient and staff communications, and HCAHPS performance strategies.
Ensure providers are educated on regulatory and documentation requirements; work with Site Medical Directors to ensure facility Departmental P&P forms and processes are compliant in coordination with the COO and Compliance Officer.
Interface with sites to approve pertinent reports to monitor performance, efficiency, and profitability.
Budget and develop new service lines to increase profitability and ensure implementation of plans.
Develop plans for ERAS and PSH model implementation.
Work with the team on enhancing Somnia University.
Ensure clinical quality program compliance and sites are successful with P4P key metrics.
Develop and manage Joint Commission updates.
Serve in a consultative role for facilities regarding OR efficiencies, while developing site action plans based on 3, 6, or 12-month goals.
Review operational analytic reports and ensure the site is meeting expectations.
Provide action plans for underperforming sites.
Serve as an interface between the anesthesia department and Corporate.
Advise and implement new client Hospitals' policies and procedures regarding the Department; ensure Medicare Conditions of Participation are met.
Partner with Somnia leadership to develop adequate staffing plans.
Serve as the brand ambassador to Somnia at new and existing accounts.
Provide anesthesia services and participate in the call schedule at assigned facilities.
During the startup phase, work with Hospital administration in planning activities, including the annual development of Department objectives, operations budget, and a capital equipment budget, and provide ongoing appraisals of the Department's strengths, weaknesses, and overall quality until a Clinical Leader has been identified.
Serve as a mentor to the national network of anesthesia Chiefs and serve as interim Chief on an as-needed basis.
Advise and assist in organizing and implementing an effective utilization review program for the Department and Hospital and perform utilization review services.
Recommend new or revised policies to appropriate committees of the Medical Staff and/or Hospital administration as needed.
Assist in the design and development of patient information forms, medical record forms, and consent forms for use within the Department.
Engage in and cooperate in furthering teaching, research, and educational activities of Somnia.
Conduct clinical evaluations for prospective candidates.
Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the executive team from time to time.
Anesthesia Specific Duties:
Ensure the Anesthesia Policy and Procedure Manual is current and updated.
Implement a systems approach for the clinical care environment.
Manage pre-op anesthesia patient information acquisition and evaluation, postoperative care, anesthesia discharge standards and instructions, incidents, or complications, and communications with on-call Anesthesiologists.
Manage internal MD and CRNA related problems in the anesthesia department.
Provide direct anesthesia services to Center patients.
Collaborate with sites to develop a fair and unbiased anesthesia schedule for coverage and late call.
Coordinate and participate in Anesthesia Staff Meetings.
Supervise Anesthesia Quality Assurance, including QA studies.
