Veterans Claims Analyst

Job Description and Duties
Position effective upon approval of Budget Act of 2018.
This position is located in the Veterans Services Division.
This position will be
primarily providing direct, in-person, one-on-one (due to
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) requirements) assistance to veterans who are incarcerated in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) facilities
and will require the incumbent to obtain and maintain background clearance with CDCR within the first six months of employment.
The incumbent will perform responsibilities and assignments in the following CDCR facilities: California Medical Facility (Solano County), California State Prison, Solano (Solano County), San Quentin State Prison (Marin County), Mule Creek State Prison (Amador County), California Health Care Facility (San Joaquin).
This position will be expected to report to the Oakland District Office (for the first 3-6 months for training and accreditation. Upon completion of necessary training, the District Office manager will approve the incumbent to telecommute from primarily state prisons.

Statement of Qualifications
Interested applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications of no more than two pages with 12 point font (write "Statement of Qualifications" on the top of the page) that addresses the following desirable qualifications:
Experience working with the public and specifically working with veterans, dependents, and their survivors.
Experience working with different government and non-government entities as partners.
Experience with claims processing and analyzing decisions on claims.
Experience dealing with multiple cases and keeping records of development and determination on claims.
Experience working with clients and completing in-person interviews.
Experience working with multiple walk-in clients.
Ability, comfort and motivation to working one on one with incarcerated veterans in state prisons to assist them with connecting with benefits.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
